Yellowstone (3/4)

Wednesday 25/07

We wake up at 4:45am.

We see a lot of bison (there are 5,000 in the park). We also see pronghorns (a type of antelopes); North America is the only place where pronghorns live.

Natural management is the key word in Yellowstone NP: they don’t put off the natural fires; they leave the animals alone (no feeding, no control…).

We witness great bisons crossings! Wow!

We also see ospreys (a type of hawk) and bighorn sheep (‘mouflons’ in French).

We try to spot wolves with the telescopes.

We come back in Gardiner at noon, where we eat a pizza in a local pub, while watching sports on the 3 TVs.

We return to the hotel to rest. Isabelle and the kids take a nap while I work on my laptop, outside. It’s quite windy (but it’s way too hot in the tent).

Isabelle and I leave again around 4:30pm. The kids stay in the teepee camp to rest (these last days have been tough).

We drive to Grand Canyon, which expresses the park’s complex geologic history in dramatic colors and shapes. We do part of the outlook walk. We also stop at 2 waterfalls.

On the way back, we stop to admire a mother bear with her 2 cubs. The cubs are playing together; they are so cute!

We reach Gardiner around 8:30pm.

We stop to buy (elk and beef) burgers, to take away.

We go and eat them with the kids. We also heat up the pizza slices from lunch, in front of the fireplace.
