Chicago (5/6)

Sunday 05/08

We wake up around 7:30am.

Isabelle goes back to the Aurora Outlet Village with Florence. She wants to buy a pair of Croc’s and Florence needs a few things.

I stay with Jules, who is not feeling well. He plays on his iPad while I try to finish the posts on the Galapagos for the blog. I’ve already understood that I won’t post anything related to the USA before our return in Belgium; I hope to have the courage to do it once back in Brussels… I’m more than a month and a half behind on the blog.

I spend the whole day on this.

I eat a salad with Jules.

Isabelle and Florence come back around 3pm.! Florence eats the salad that I prepared while Isabelle goes on with the visit of the Art Institute of Chicago.

I go to eat an ice cream at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream. The shop is nearby. It is located on the street of Wringley Field, the stadium of the local Cub’s baseball team. The street is full of bars with plenty of screens. It’s a nice atmosphere: fans go to watch the games with their family. The bad part (for us) is that it is basically impossible to park near the house during the 4 days of the game!

There are unusual flavours for ice creams. Jules doesn’t take any (he must be very sick…).

Isabelle comes back around 6pm.

At 6:30pm, we go to the movies, to watch Christopher Robin at the Davis theatre. Nice movie, with nice messages but nothing really exciting.

I wanted to try the famous hotdogs at Hot G Dog but it is closed.

We come back home around 9pm and we eat the rest of the fridge (Isabelle eats the salad that I prepared for her for lunch and Jules eats almost nothing…).

I continue to prepare the visit of Chicago (last day tomorrow already!) while Isabelle edits her vlogs for the blog.

I try to buy tickets online for the Museum of Sciences: very well done (What ages do you have in your group?, How much time will you have at MSI?, What subject areas interest you?…) but very expensive. Once again we see that this kind of visit cannot be improvised… As is often the case, you get back what you put into it; that is to say, by preparing your visit carefully (and we came to the conclusion that it is “unfortunately” (because it takes a lot of time) mandatory these days…) we make the most of it.

As I don’t know whether Jules will feel better tomorrow, I don’t finalize the purchase. We also want to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, which must be done with a guided tour.  As I said just above, it’s a whole organization (without mentioning that you also have to think about feeding the children).

I work until 2am (Isabelle stays awake until 1am).
