Thursday 02/08
We wake up around 8:30am, without an alarm clock. We go to the Jewel Posco nearby (by car), the supermarket recommended by the owners of our Airbnb.
Great supermarket. We buy mainly fruits, but also cereals, vegetables and Häagen-Dazs ice cream.
We have a very good breakfast; it’s been a long time since we were able to prepare our breakfast the way we like.
We work a little on our laptops. I continue to prepare our stay in Chicago.
We chat to Ludivine, who had her first day of class at Bois Sauvage. So far so good.
We leave around 2pm. We take the subway to go to the city. There are a lot of young people dressed very lightly (to say the least) who go to the Lollapalooza festival (a 4-day music festival that takes place in Grant Park), which starts today.
We go to the Revival Food Hall, where there is an Aloha Poke Co. We eat toasts at the Farmer’s Market. They have an interesting Farmer’s Fridge offering fresh products.
Unfortunately, the Black Dog Gelato (which supposedly serves very good ice cream) no longer exists.
We start the walk in the Loop (the one recommended by Lonely Planet). The Loop is Chicago’s central business district; it is the second-largest business district in North America after Midtown Manhattan.
There are very beautiful and interesting buildings (but without any setback for the pictures). We like the atrium of the Rookery, by Frank Lloyd Wright.
We walk about 10km.
We also do the Magnificent Mile, which is Chicago’s premier commercial district. This vibrant, bustling area is home to upscale shops, luxe fashion outlets, cool restaurants and posh hotels.
Around 7pm, we go to eat a “deep dish” pizza at Pizzeria Uno where they apparently invented this “deep dish” pizza. It takes 45’ to prepare them. They are indeed quite different but not better than the “normal” ones.
Around 9pm, we go and listen to blues in the Blue club. Good band; great experience. We stay for an hour.
We take the subway back to the apartment.
We are in bed a little after 11pm.
