Mount Rushmore & Badlands NP

Friday 27/07

We wake up at 7am.

We have breakfast outside.

We go to Walmart to buy a picnic lunch.

We leave Cody before 9am.

We have a long road today: 8 hours. We want to go to Mount Rushmore (and even go further after the visit…).

We take turns every 2 hours.

Isabelle gives a little Dutch lesson with the kids.

She also works on French with Jules. I laugh a lot at one of Jules’ answer. I’ll write it in French because that’s the only reason it’s funny.

Mount Rushmore is in South Dakota. It’s a bit disappointing for me (the weather doesn’t help). But there’s a ranger explaining the life of Theodore Roosevelt to us in a very entertaining and lively way; a real storyteller.

The weather is bad; it’s raining.

We go to Badlands NP, which has amazing geological formations. We do the scenic road (1 h) through the park. Around 7:30pm, the sun makes a surprise appearance. Beautiful rainbow.

We are tired. We decide to go to the next town to eat and sleep.

We arrive in Kadoka around 9pm. We eat at a steakhouse (burger, chicken, shrimps and salmon). We then take a room in a motel near the highway. We get a clean room (with 2 queen beds) for less than 100$ (for the 4 of us).
