San Francisco (5)

Tuesday 10/07

We wake up at 8am.

We leave around 9:30am. We go in search of a place to watch the semi-final Belgium – France.

We park near Union Square. The first bar we enter we are not allowed to stay with the kids since they only serve drinks (no food). We walk to an Irish Pub but we stop on the way in a bar/restaurant showing the game on 2 big tv’s.

After the game, we go and eat good poke bowls at Big Fish Small Fish, in a foodcourt.

We walk to Union Square from where the Free SF Tour departs at 2pm. We arrive just on time.

The tour takes 2½ hours. It’s less walking and more fun facts and conversation. The tour goes through the Downtown San Francisco, mainly Chinatown and the Financial District. The guide is good; he talks about the City’s history, the Gold Rush, influential women, buried ships under the buildings, current affairs… It’s a very entertaining and interesting tour.

We go to the Gefen Fine Art shop, where we see nice pop art sculpture.

We walk to the SFMOMA but it is closed. I thought it was open till 9pm on Tuesdays but it’s apparently on Thursdays…

We take the car from the parking (30$ for a few hours!) and we drive to Baker Beach, which has one of the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge in all of San Francisco. Gorgeous vistas indeed! We are surprised to find nudists at the end of the beach.

We cross the bridge towards north. We stop at different viewpoints. We also have great views of the Golden Gate Bridge from this side!

We stop at a Safeway to buy some groceries.

Isabelle prepares burgers with rice + tomatoes and avocados.

Kids are in bed at 10pm.

I work till 2am. I really don’t like to prepare the visit of a city without hard copy of the guidebooks. It’s much more difficult!

PS: You might have noticed that I didn’t elaborate much on the game of this morning. Sometimes I have a selective memory… Anyway, what a disappointment!!!
