Wednesday 02/08 – Tomsk
We have the whole day to visit Tomsk today. Tomsk is not on the Trans-Siberian line and we enjoy being in a remote town. It’s not as small as I thought though.
We started by heading uphill to the Tomsk History Museum where we only climbed up the wooden tower to see the view. The girls had fun trying out historical costumes (see pictures). We then walked to the Church of the Epiphany and further to the city center, in particular along the Tom River.
We had pizza for lunch. Pasta yesterday night and pizza today: the kids are thrilled!
We continued our tour towards the wooden ‘lace’ houses. Some of them are really nice such as the Dragon House and especially the Peacock House. It is very pleasant to be guided by lsabelle while visiting the cities; she masters the maps.me app, which is a very convenient app, available online.
We then went back to the hotel to “chillax” (a new word invented by Florence, a contraction of ‘chill’ and ‘relax’) and take a shower before our 32-hour journey to Irkutsk (2 hours by train from Tomsk to Tayga, 3-hour waiting time in Tayga station and 27 hours by train from Tayga to Irkutsk).
Train Tomsk – Tayga: we are pretty much alone in this ‘elektritchka’. A bit of study for the kids + instant noodles / soups for dinner.
I’m writing this post from the Tayga station, where we are waiting for our train to Irkutsk. Irkutsk!!! I’m looking forward to reaching Irkutsk; the names bears some kind of magic for me…
