Thursday 19/07
Wake up at 7am. I have a confcall with Egon Zhender for a position in Abu Dhabi, which is not really what is currently on my mind… to say the least.
Kids are tired this morning (“we want sleep”). They haven’t slept much these last days…
Breakfast at the hotel. We leave around 8:30am.
We arrive once more in Arizona State (and the associated one-hour time difference).
We drive to the Grand Canyon NP. We’re impatient to discover this grandiose scenery.
We’ll visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It’s much less touristy than the (probably more impressive) South Rim. We’ve noticed during our trip that the places crowded with tourists are much less appealing to us (and it is becoming more and more difficult to avoid the crowds…).
We start with the viewpoint of Bright Angel Point. We take nice pictures including some pictures of the children on a high a platform overlooking the cliff. Impressive (although we hardly see them in the pictures). I must admit that although I initiated these pictures, I was a bit scared.
We take the Cape Royal (scenic) road. We stop at different viewpoints.
We go to the last viewpoint, Angels Window, over an arche. What a view!
We go back to the entrance of the park by the same scenic road. We stop at a viewpoint (Vista Encantada) to eat our picnic (we bought bread, ham, cheese and tomatoes in the General Store of the park).
We continue our drive, to Lake Powell.
The road passes by the Vermilion Cliffs and Marble Canyon. Western landscapes.
We arrive at the Horseshoe Bent around 4pm. It’s very nice. There’s a little sandstorm (and even rain coming). We are surprised by the number of French tourists since we arrive in the US.
We decide to cancel our plan to camp tonight (in our new tent) and try to find a hotel in Page (there are many of them).
Kids and Isabelle go to swimming pool.
We go and eat at 8pm, in a steakhouse in Page. We wait more than one hour to get our order (steaks and pork chops). It was not a great dinner (average food, slow service, tensed atmosphere within the family and expensive bill).
We are back in the hotel around 9:30pm. It’s again not tonight that the kids will sleep early…
Friday 20/07 (1/2)
We wake up at 6am to go and see the Horseshoe Bent again, with the nice morning light this time. Only Ludivine comes with us.
