"Where do you go?" "How will you travel?" "When will you be in ...?"
We have planned the following trip, booked the hotels and flights until mid-November so far. We will travel "back-pack", with trains, buses, airplanes, boats, bikes, campervans, etc... trying to travel light (one cabin-sized trolley and one back-pack per person). But we want to stay flexible and adapt as the adventure unfolds.
- Russia: 16 July - 14 August 2017 (29 days)
Moscow (6 days) and then the Trans-Mongolian train (to Beijing) with frequent stops (in Suzdal, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Tobolsk, Tomsk, Irkutsk, Ulan Ude, and Barguzin Valley).
- Mongolia: 14 August - 1 September 2017 (19 days)
Ulaanbaatar + 12-day trip to the Tsaatan reindeer herders in the North of Mongolia, near the Russian border (lake Khuvsgull).
- China: 1 September - 17 October 2017 (47 days)
Beijing and the Great Wall (12 days), Xi'an, Guilin (the Li river, visit to an organic farm, rice fields, and the local communities), Shanghai (15 days), Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
- Japan: 17 October - 9 November 2017 (24 days)
Kyoto (4 days), Koya-san, Osaka, Naoshima islands, Kanazawa, Hakone and Tokyo (10 days).
- Philippines: 9 November - 8 December 2017 (30 days)
Manila, Palawan, the Visayas and Bohol, relaxing on nice beaches and diving/snorkeling spots.
- Australia: 8 December 2017 - 1 February 2018 (54 days)
Great Barrier Reef, Gold Coast, Sydney, Tasmania, Great ocean road, Kangaroo Island.
- New Zealand: 1 February - 17 March 2018 (45 days)
Extensive 6-week tour of North and South Islands (including 2 x 10 days in campervan): Auckland, New Plymouth, Ohakune, Wellington, Abel Tasman NP, Kaikoura, Franz Joseph, Dunedin, Queenstown, Milford Sound.
Focus on outdoor activities: trekking (Routeburn Track and Abel Tasman Coastal Track), cycling…
- Chile: 17 March - 20 April 2018 (35 days)
Patagonia (Torres del Paine trek), Santiago, Easter Island.
It includes a quick visit to Argentina after Patagonia, for the Perito Moreno Glacier and the Fitz Roy trek.
- Galapagos: 20 April - 28 April 2018 (9 days)
Another dream that comes true!
- Peru: 29 April - 15 June 2018 (48 days)
Still too “far” to have a precise idea but probably Lima (for the food!), Cuzco, Machu Picchu (of course) and ???
- USA: 15 June - 15 August 2018 (61 days)
West Coast (SF, LA, Vegas) to East Coast (Chicago, Detroit, NYC); route still to be defined (route 66?).
